Reflection over http://blog.mrmeyer.com/
The purpose of this web resource is to provide
lesson plans, ideas, etc. to math teachers. The "3 Act Math" (tab on the side of the page) is an excel file
including links to videos with questions attached to them to solve. The idea of "3 Act Math" is an engagement style of teaching that seems to generally begin with the use of pictures or videos. I probably will not be using this website because it’s
purpose is mainly to support teachers teaching upper grade levels math concepts, and my main interest is teaching elementary mathematics.
There are different tabs on this website that I think are
beneficial. I like the author’s articles about technology use in classrooms and
using electronic devices instead of just using paper. I really thought the author’s writing was interesting. His
style was fun to read and many of his entries were enlightening. Favorite Quote: “Mistakes
are valuable. Student work is valuable."
I have been collecting photos of things for a while and wonder of those could be used in a sort of 3-act math approach to teaching. So I'd present a photo of the wheels (1st act), then ask how many? How did you count them?(second act) then present the same photo again with several strategies superimposed over the actual photo. Then finally I'd introduce the idea of arrays as a strategy, or even the distributive property,,,
